Pressure sensors for industrial automation

Pressure sensors and transducers are indispensable in automation processes in engineering, mechanical engineering, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, compressors, etc.

How they work and how they work

The pressure sensors are equipped with a ceramic or silicon sensitive stainless steel membrane with a stainless steel strain gauge.

This type of sensor consists of a pressure receiver with a sensor, a signal conversion circuit and an information signal output device

The main differences between some devices and others are the measurement limits, their ranges, accuracy, permissible operating conditions, and weight and size characteristics.

Types of sensors based on the principle of pressure conversion:

Strain gauges The change in resistance during deformation of strain gages glued to an elastic element that is deformed under pressure.
Piezoresistive Silicon converters have high sensitivity due to changes in the specific volume resistance of a semiconductor during pressure deformation.
Capacitive When the pressure changes, the membrane with the electrode deforms and a change in capacity occurs
Resonant The change in the resonant frequency of an oscillating elastic element when deformed by force or pressure.
Inductive The sensing element consists of two coils isolated from each other by a metal shield. The transducer measures the displacement of the membrane in the absence of mechanical contact. When the membrane is deflected, a current is created in the fixed main coil, which leads to a change in the inductance of the system.
Ionization The lamp is equipped with two electrodes: a cathode and an anode, as well as a heater. The dependence of the signal on pressure is logarithmic.
Piezoelectric It is based on a direct piezoelectric effect, in which a piezoelectric element generates an electrical signal proportional to the force or pressure acting on it.

Sensor error and sensor accuracy classes:

  • High-precision, with an error of 0.10-0.15%
  • Accurate, with an error of 0.20-0.25%
  • Technical, with an error of more than 0.40%
