Safety valves protect piping systems and equipment from mechanical failure as a result of exposure to overpressure. They operate on the principle of automatic discharge of excess liquid, steam and gas mixtures from pipeline systems when the pressure exceeds the established norms into the low pressure area or into the atmosphere. According to the method of exposure
  • direct impact - counteraction to the pressure of the working environment;
  • indirect impact - control of third-party pressure sources - electricity;
By the type of impact on the locking organ
  • spring – the created pressure from the influence of the working medium is counteracted by the compression force of the safety spring. They are adjusted to different actuation pressure by selecting the appropriate spring.
  • cargo, lever-cargo – the force on the locking body, which is created by the working environment, is counteracted by the force from the load through the valve stem.
  • magneto-spring - through an electromagnetic drive, which can provide additional clamping of the locking element to the seat or forced opening of the valve.

One of the varieties of safety valves without liquid discharge is the so-called bypass (overflow) valves.

Bypass valves are a special type of safety valves used to regulate the pressure of the medium in the system at the required level by passing it through a branch of the pipeline. This applies to liquid and gaseous media. Pressure stabilization in the valve is achieved due to the design of the shut-off element, which eliminates the dynamic effect of the working medium on the movable part of the shut-off element.
