The dial thermometer is a universal device for measuring and controlling temperature. A change in volume in a liquid-filled measuring system or a change in pressure under the influence of temperature inside a gas-filled measuring system is converted by a Bourdon tube without any transmission mechanism into a deviation of the actual value indicator.

Due to the direct connection of the arrow to the measuring system, the system as a whole has a high torsional rigidity. Vibrations are transmitted to the arrow only slightly.
