Gear pumps
Gear pumping units belong to the rotary type of pumps, the key working organs of which are two or more gears.
The gears are located in the pump housing and have teeth with which they form a gearing. To drive the gears, a driving gear is used, driven by an electric motor located on one axis. The driven gear is driven by engagement with the teeth of the drive gear.
The housings of these types of pumps are made of durable materials: elements such as the pump housing, rotor and driven wheel can be made of ductile iron, stainless steel or carbon steel.
Where are such pumps used?
Gear pumps are widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, and other industrial processes where special attention is paid to operational safety, production accuracy, and reliability:
- In the marine industry – in lubrication units and systems, the supply of hydraulic oil to gearboxes, engines.
- In the food industry – the supply of chocolate, animal fat, components for chewing gum, and food acids.
- In the construction industry – in the production of double-glazed windows, thermal glue, polyurethanes.
- In the road, agricultural and municipal industries – as part of hydraulic systems that operate at low pressure levels up to 20 MPa.
Types of pumps:
With an external type of engagement | During the rotational movement of the two gears, the substance between the teeth enters the discharge line. A "locked volume" is created at the engagement points of the wheels. As a result, there is a ripple effect on the discharge line. |
With an internal engagement type | Inside the larger drive gear, there is a smaller driven wheel, which is supported by a crescent-shaped element made of steel. Such installations are distinguished by a low level of pulsations, low noise indicators |
Gear pumping units are used for pumping organic media and inorganic chemicals, acids and alkalis, additives, resins and polyurethanes, silicones, adhesives, varnishes and paints, wax and paraffins, petrochemical products, vegetable, animal oils and fats, cosmetic products, pharmaceutical products, food, creams, etc.
