Mass flow meters are used for direct measurement of gas flow rates in technological processes. For volumetric flowmeters, it is necessary to additionally measure temperature and pressure or density, since the density or volume of gases varies depending on pressure. The measurement of mass flow, in contrast, is independent of pressure and temperature. The digital mass flow meter type 8701 has a sensor based on a silicon integrated circuit (see the description on page 2) located directly in the bypass channel. Due to this, a very fast response of the device is achieved. The current flow rate is output as an analog standard signal or via RS communication. The Type 8701 can be calibrated to two different gases, between which the user can switch the device. The materials of the parts in contact with the working medium are selected depending on the customer's specification so that the devices can operate in the entire range of common process gases. Typical applications are gas flow measurement on test benches, in environmental protection engineering, in medical and analytical engineering.
