Description of the gear mechanism
A gearbox is a mechanism that transmits torque. The purpose of the mechanism is to reduce the speed and torque of the driven shaft in comparison with the driving one. The cost of a gearbox depends on its design, operating principle, and technical characteristics. The mechanism consists of a body, which can be solid-cast or welded. Cast iron is used for the production of solid cast housings, and steel is used for welded housings. There are transmission elements inside the case. Additionally, lubrication and cooling devices can be installed.
The main technical characteristic of the mechanism is the gear ratio - the ratio of the number of teeth on the drive shaft to their number on the slave.

Types of gearboxes

Cylindrical gearboxes. The shafts are located in a parallel plane. The transmission is carried out from a large gear to a smaller one in the shape of a cylinder. Cylindrical devices can be 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-stage. The devices have an efficiency of up to 98%.
Conical gearboxes. The planes in which the shafts are located do not intersect. Bevel gears are used to connect the shafts. Most models of this type have a gear ratio from 1 to 5, but the angles of inclination of the driven shaft can be any. The mechanism has an efficiency of up to 95%.
Worm gearboxes. The design includes a worm wheel and a mechanism ("worm"). The equipment is compact in size. The devices have a high self-braking coefficient and a relatively low efficiency - up to 92%.
Planetary gearboxes. The mechanisms consist of a main gear and satellites. The devices can change the gear ratio over a wide range. The rotation of the main gear is ensured by the rotation of the satellites. The efficiency reaches 98%.
