Pneumatic diaphragm pumps or diaphragm type pumps are referred to as volumetric pumps. The diaphragm pump has two air chambers, two working chambers, and two or four (two on each side) membranes (diaphragms) connected by a rod or an axis of membranes. The assembly of membranes connected by a rod moves alternately in different directions, while filling one working chamber with liquid and simultaneously displacing the other. The redistribution of air occurs due to the movement of the valve in the air engine.

The pressure of the diaphragm pump is usually 2-8 Bar. There is also a high pressure diaphragm pump, where this indicator is increased to 16 or 20 Bar.

Each working chamber has two check valves, usually ball valves. The valves alternately control the passage of liquid from the suction nozzle (intake manifold) to the working chamber and further to the discharge nozzle (exhaust manifold).

The production of diaphragm pumps dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. Over its long history, diaphragm pumps have proven themselves to be reliable, durable, unpretentious and do not require special strict attention to their work pumps. For example, if the valve is closed at the outlet of the pump, the diaphragm pump will simply stop. The lack of liquid when the pump is turned on and running will not lead to its breakdown or failure.

Diaphragm pneumatic pumps can operate safely for a long time in the absence of liquid (dry), due to the absence of rubbing parts.
