During the operation of the drive technology, which uses semiconductor elements, parasitic high-frequency harmonics are produced, which have a negative impact on the power supply network, as a result of which the shape of the sinusoidal voltage is distorted. The electromagnetic interference that occurs in this case negatively affects the operation of other machines and equipment, unforeseen failures and stops occur, products are damaged, and the continuity of the technological process is disrupted.
In addition, high-frequency distortions are the causes of power losses in all electric machines and devices powered by the mains.
To limit the propagation of high-frequency harmonics at the input of electric drives and thyristor modules, it is recommended to use network chokes and reactors.
The installation of inductive elements also allows to extinguish switching overvoltages, in case of a short circuit, the value of the steady-state short-circuit current and its rate of increase are reduced. Network reactors protect low-power electronic devices from the effects created by welding equipment, thyristor regulators, DC drives.
